Design

This 1923 Dominion of Canada $2 note features as its central vignette the portrait of HRH Prince of Wales, who reigned briefly in 1936 as King Edward VIII. The photograph which was the basis of the portrait was selected in the summer of 1922, and proofs of the notes were approved in July 1923. 

The four main features that differentiate between varieties are the signatures, group number, colour of the Department of Finance seal and large coloured numerals. In this variety the seal of the Department of Finance was printed in black ink.

The back of the note is the Dominion Coat of Arms which was engraved from a photograph of an official drawing supplied by the Department of Secretary of State.
