Design:
Designed by Canadian artist Silvia Pecota, your coin features full colour over an engraved hockey-themed scene. The ice-capped mountain peaks and tall conifers provide a stunning backdrop to this scene set in Western Canada, where a group of youths have gathered to play hockey on a paved outdoor rink. A lack of ice does little to deter these players on this balmy afternoon: with a canine friend in net, one player uses his body to help maintain “puck” possession while two others look for an opportunity to steal the ball away. The smiles on the boy and girl's faces show the light-hearted nature of this game, while all three players proudly wear their home team's colours. The two youths on the right are depicted wearing t-shirts with the Vancouver Canucks logo; a larger version of the logo appears above them, with its familiar Haida art-inspired rendition of a breaching orca jumping out of the “C”-shaped ice.
