White bouquets to brighten the shade

The distinctive shape of its three large petals is hard to resist - but do not pick this floral gem. To do so will destroy the trillium's ability to bloom for several years, an injury that has Ontario's once highly visible floral emblem (adopted 1937) into a rare prize indeed. Trillium grandiflorum once dominated Ontario's landscape, blooming throughout its southern regions and as far north as Lake Nipissing. From late April to the end of May, the of Ontario's deciduous forests is illuminated with large white blooms. As these petals fade, they turn to various shades of pink before giving way to red berries.

Design

Designed by Canadian artist Pamela Stagg, this gold coin is 99.999 pure, the highest standard of fine gold available in the world. It measures 34 mm and weighs 38.05 g and has a face value of $350 Canadian dollars. 

The obverse side of the coin features an Effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by artist Dora de Pedery-Hunt.
