Design

The reverse design by retired Senior Engraver Stan Witten features an arrangement of three sugar maple (Acer saccharum) leaves, set against a black rhodium plated field. Gently overlapping, the leaves are tilted towards the right to convey movement, as though the leaves are falling or have just landed on the ground, while still allowing a clear view of their intricate vein pattern. The obverse features a black rhodium plated field and the effigy of His Majesty King Charles III by Canadian artist Steven Rosati.

Triple Maple reflects Stan’s passion for his craft and his love of nature, which shaped his vision and approach to sculpting maple leaves during his 35-year career.
