The National Ballet of Canada was established by dancer Celia Franca and is the only Canadian company to present a full range of traditional full-evening ballet classics. Its debut performance took place at the Eaton Auditorium (Toronto, Ontario) on November 12, 1951 with an engaging program that included Les Sylphides and Polovtsian Dances from Prince Igor. One of the top ballet companies in the world, the National Ballet of Canada is home to some of the best talents in dance-notably, choreographer James Kudelka, and Karen Kain, the company's principal dancer for 28 years.
