British Columbia Centennial Commemorative Issue
To the commemorate the gold rush centenary and the establishment of British Columbia as an English Crown colony, a special reverse coin design was employed. British Columbia is the only area in Canada where the Indians constructed totem poles, so the design is very appropriate. It was rumoured that this issue was unpopular with the coastal Indians because it contained an element which to them signified death.
Obverse
Coin depicts the laureate design of Queen Elizabeth II with the Latin inscription:
ELIZABETH II DEI GRATIA REGINA: meaning "Elizabeth II, by the grace of God, the Queen."
Reverse
Coin depicts a totem pole designed by Stephen Trenka.
Royal Canadian Mint issued 1958 $1 Silver Dollar coin for circulation. Item comes in circulated condition. Coin may have some toning, wear and/or field scratches.
