1942 Canadian 5-Cent Beaver Nickel Coin Roll (Circulated)

Large 5 Cents - George VI (1937 - 1942)

Both obverses (round and 12-sided issues) have a bare-headed portrait of the King. In keeping with the decision to modernize the new George VI reverses, the now-familiar beaver motif was chosen for the 5 cent coins (was at first considered for the 10 cents). The 1937 issue has a period (dot) after the date in an effort to balance the design, but after 1937 the period was omitted.

Obverse

Coin depicts the design of King George VI with the Latin inscription:
GEORGIVS VI D:G:REX ET IND:IMP meaning "George V, by the grace of God, the King and Emperor of India."

Reverse

Features a beaver on a rock-studded mound of earth rising out of the water. At the left is a log which the beaver has been chewing.
