Design

Designed by Canadian artist Curtis Atwater, your coin features the Arctic char (Salvelinus alpinus) towards the end of its migratory journey, from the saline waters along the Arctic coastline to the freshwater rivers and lakes of Northern Canada. The engraved background offers an underwater view of this distinctive species as two Arctic char hover just beneath the water's surface, while a third in the foreground remains close to the pebble and gravel-lined riverbed. Selective colour brings to life the spotted, bright orange tint of this spawning adult, while intricate engraving offers a detailed view of its fins and upwardly protruding lower jaw.
