1859 Canadian 1-Cent Large Penny Coin 5pc Lot ( low grade)
Large Cents - Victoria (1858-1859)
Canada's first coinage. The coin were conceived to be used also as convenient units of measure; the diameter is exactly 1 inch and 100 pieces weith 1 avoirdupois pound. Nevertheless, they were not very popular at first and were discounted, sometimes by as much as 20%, to get them into circulation.
Obverse
Coin depicts the design of a youthful Queen Victoria with a laurel wreath in her hair. Inscriptions as follows:
"VICTORIA DEI GRATIA REGINA" meaning "Victoria, by the grace of God, the Queen".
Reverse
Depicts a serpentine vine with 16 maple leaves. There are numerous slight variations involving recuttying of some of the leaf stems or the vine stalk.

Each lot comes with 10 coins of 1859 Canadian 1-Cent Large Penny Coin in titled condition.
