1926 FAR 6 Canadian 5-Cent Nickel Coin ICCS Graded VF-20

Large 5 Cents - George V (1922 - 1936)

The new Canadian nickel 5-cent piece was introduced in 1922 after two years of planning to provide a more manageable size, and because nickel is essentially a Canadian metal. The silver coin it replaced was allowed to circulate also until the 1930s, when a more active withdrawal program was instituted.

1926 '6' Varieties

It was usual practice for the George V 5-cent coin series to complete the date at the matrix stage, eliminating the necessity to date every reverse die and thereby assuring that there would be no difference in the positioning of the date digits on a given year's coinage. A notable exception was 1926, when the reverse punch (bearing a 6 which nearly touched the maple leaf) was retired before the conclusion of the coinage. The second variety had the 6 slightly farther from the maple leaf.

Coin depicts the design of King George V (grandfather of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II) with the Latin inscription:
GEORGIVS V DEI GRA:REX ET IND:IMP meaning "George V, by the grace of God, the King and Emperor of India."

Features two maple leaves
