1923 Canadian 1-Cent Small Penny Coin ICCS Graded MS-60

Small Cents - George V (1920 - 1936)

As a matter of economy and to conserve copper, the Canadian government introduced in 1920 a small cent similar in size and composition to the United States. In comparison to the earlier large cent coins, the small cents lacked rim denticles, the first instance of this in the Canadian decimal series.

Coin depicts the design of King George V (grandfather of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II) with the Latin inscription:
GEORGIVS V DEI GRA:REX ET IND:IMP meaning "George V, by the grace of God, the King and Emperor of India."

Features two maple leaves

Note: The photo of this item is the actual coin in ICCS graded envelope.
