In 2010, the United States Mint began issuing 56 quarter-dollar coins featuring designs depicting national parks and other national sites as part of the United States Mint America the Beautiful Quarters Program.

The 2011 Olympic National Park Quarter is the eighth strike in the US Mint's America the Beautiful Quarters Program® and honors the national park found in the state of Washington. The Olympic Quarter also marks the third quarter dollar to be issued in 2011 by the US Mint and shows a release date of June 13, 2011.

Olympic National Park is found on the Olympic Peninsula in the state of Washington. The area was first given federal protection by President Theodore Roosevelt as Mount Olympus National Monument in 1909. It attained the national park status on June 29, 1938.

The park receives well over two million annual visitors owing in large part to the diverse landscapes which it has to offer. Found within the parks boundaries are a 73 mile Pacific Ocean coastline, the Olympic Mountains and a temperate rainforest. Combined, the three unique regions offer visitors many recreational opportunities in its 922,000 acres.

Design

Obverse:
